Scientist- Technology Development

Department: Elo Life Systems
Location: Durham, NC

Position Summary

Scientist-Technology Development coordinates activities between various internal and external groups to discover, test, validate, develop, improve and apply technologies to enable rapid advances in agriculture. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of molecular biotechnology, new breeding technologies, plant breeding and genomics, along with a creative mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


•   PhD in plant molecular biology, genomics or a related field with at least 4 years of experience; or MS with at least 7 years of experience

•   Demonstrated experience in advanced molecular biology methods along with ability to handle routine techniques such as PCR/qPCR, primer design, cloning, vector construction, transformation, bacterial screening, protein gels and Western blots and enzyme assays

•   Demonstrated experience in standard microbiological methods including aseptic technique and microscopy; Experience with plant tissue culture, protoplast regeneration and plant cell lines is desired

•   Expertise in the optimization of gene delivery, editing and HDR efficiency in plant systems with genome editing technologies: ZFNs, TALENs and CRISPR-Cas is essential

•   Development of high-throughput and high-content assays with automated image analysis, flow cytometry and next-generation sequencing 

•   Record of designing creative technical solutions for challenging scientific problems

•   Working knowledge of major crop species and expertise in an area of application of molecular breeding methodologies.

•   Demonstrated experience planning and leading research activities, with excellent ability to interpret experimental data, use computational tools and perform quantitative analyses.

•   Ability to create and implement high quality innovative concepts for R&D development and execution. Creative, practical and innovative thinking is highly desirable.

•   Ability to work in a matrix team environment encompassing multiple disciplines.

•   Proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
